Direct Care Staff

$9.00 per hour (No Exceptions)

Must have a Valid Texas Drivers License, Personal Vehicle and Must be able to pass a criminal background.

Direct Care Staff (DCS)

POSITION OBJECTIVE:

Ensure that dignity and respect are afforded to the individual living in a Residential Program or other living environments. The Direct Care Staff will teach and provide support so that each individual in the home: (1) feels safe and has the best possible health (2) are afforded choices and due process (3) are provided opportunities for community inclusion (4) are encouraged to realize their personal goals.

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:

MHMR experience is preferred, but not required. A High School diploma, GED, personal vehicle, valid Texas Drivers license, and current/on going liability insurance coverage are also required. Must have the ability to train/teach people with disabilities and train and teach new hires.   Basic Knowledge of behavioral management principles, communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in written form, interact courteously and professionally at all times, ability to accept direction and make constructive use of supervision, work irregular schedules, including overnight.

DAILY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Performs task correctly and according to policies and proceedings.
  2. Act in a professional manner at all times.
  3. Follow abuse/neglect/exploitation rules and reporting with no exception.
  4. Understand and practice principles of HCS.
  5. Insure that Group Home(s) daily duties are completed at the end of each shift (i.e. cleaning group home, laundry, administering medications, preparing meals, daily progress notes, etc…).
  6. Documenting (i.e. Progress Notes, Monthly Data Sheets, monthly MAR sheets, Monthly Fire Drill documents, Body Check documents, Monthly Community Activity documents, etc…).
  7. Coordinate with Residential Manager(s) when a consumer is in need of personal hygiene items (i.e. shampoo, conditioner, bathing soap, deodorant, etc…).
  8. Ensure all group homes are stocked with necessary items to ensure a safe and healthy environment (i.e. gloves, wipes, diapers, chucks, etc…).
  9. Assuring that the Consumers’ are dressed properly with ironed attire in the mornings and dressed no later than 7 a.m. to be transported to their day rehabilitation center(s) and school(s).
  10. Other responsibilities and duties as assigned by Residential Manager, Program Nurse and Program Director.
